What About Bob!
In the 1991 comedy What About Bob, Bill Murray had a great showcase for his talent. Just thinking about the scenes in this movie makes me laugh. Did you see it? If not, it is about Dr. Leo Marvin a psychologist who writes a book called Baby Steps and he is going to be interviewed about it by Good Morning America while he is at his vacation home on Lake Winnipesaukee. His new patient Bob, who is obsessive-compulsive and a major manipulator, follows him on vacation and the fun ensues. I loved the house from the What About Bob movie, so gotta show it.
What About Bob house is on Lake Winnipesaukee which is actually in New Hampshire and is quite a popular vacation spot year round.
The wide stairs with the double railings leading up to the front door begins the magic of the home and then that porch, well, I just fell in love! Whoever scouted out this home for the movie did a super job. I want to live there or at least go on vacation there at Lake Winnipesaukee and a drive-by of the real What About Bob house might be in order.
Here is a shot of the real What About Bob house that shows the back of the house that was never seen in the movie
I think to be inside and be looking out at the lake would be lovely.
Here is a view of the back of the house from further away .
Anyway, back to the What About Bob movie. In the movie there is a scene were an older couple wanted to buy this house, but were unable to because Dr. Leo Marvin bought it out from under them. Who could not be mad about that!
What About Bob kitchen scenes were a delight. Like the warm cabinets and island and how items are strewn about like the coffeemaker, cups, and coffee can on the island. There is a peak of a bluish stone-washed looking cabinet here that would so go with the lake house/vacation look. It is all unpretentious just like the Fay, mother and wife (played by Julie Hagerty) and Anna the daughter (played by Kathryn Erbe) who is on the stool in this scene.
The family is having a blast here with Bob in the kitchen cleaning up after dinner and singing the song “Singing in the rain.”
A lovely screened-in porch to dine in. Yep, I like that. There were having chicken and Bob keeps saying Mmmmmm, Mmmmm, Mmmmm, Mmmm, Mmm way too many times, much to Dr. Leo’s extreme irritation. The family really starts to like Bob here, and of course they do, he is soo much more easy-going than Dr. Marvin.
What About Bob-I just like saying that. Good Morning America loves Bob, but, Dr. Leo freezes up and can’t even talk.
What About Bob family gathers for a picture with the Good Morning America talk host, well, all except Dr. Leo because he is working on his mental breakdown.
The house blows up near the end of the movie. How can this happen, No, say it is not so. This is the last picture of the house I can find. I did see the real What About Bob house on Flickr and it looks great, so give it a visit. I wonder what it is like to live in a house that is from a movie? Thanks Hollywood for making this movie. I will watch it again and again.
