Charming yellow house in the heart of Iowa sold in one day!
This charming yellow house is my dear SIL’s house. She and her husband listed their home, it sold in one day, and it is now pending for final sale. I showed you their darling home in the popular post Little Yellow Houses so it might look familiar. I thought this little heartbreak home would sell fast once it was up for sale. It sure surpassed all expectations. I can tell you that a lot of readers like yellow houses as I’ve received several emails asking what color this house is painted.
The house is nestled in the little town of Winterset, Iowa just southwest of Des Moines. Winterset is known for the birthplace home of John Wayne that people tour and the movie Bridges of Madison County, starring Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep, was filmed there.
Charming Yellow House:
The listing says: “Charming and well-maintained 1.5 story home. Four bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms on nearly a half-acre corner lot.”
How did it sell so fast?!
Winterset is a booming town now and people want to move there, but also maybe because it is so darn cute and cozy like a cottage.
My SIL Chris shared that recent exterior updates included painting the lower brick area under the siding the same color as the house along with painting the underside of the eves the same color as the house. I think this made the house look taller and flow beautifully with the landscaping. They also installed new wood steps at the front door entrance and made sure all the landscaping looked just right.
They made the window boxes years ago and painted them the same color as the front door and shutters.

Chris has a green thumb and her flowers and landscaping frame the house, deck, and patio beautifully. I like her fun windmill in the background.
The extra-large two-car garage is a perfect backdrop to the cozy patio with stone walkway in-between seating, a double swing, and hanging flowered baskets.
Fun facts: Once the for sale sign went up on day one, they saw people driving by and circling the house like sharks. They had a showing that day with a serious offer and the house was sold! Wow! A seller’s dream come true.
If you want this house you can’t have it unless the pending sale falls through.

For a small house, the kitchen cabinets hold a lot and the countertops work out well for the lady of the house that just so happens to be an excellent cook and baker.

I happen to know this first-floor master bedroom is huge with a large closet and the photo does not do it justice.
The 4th bedroom is the smallest and serves as an office.
I hate to say goodbye to my relatives’ adorable home. They are thrilled the house sold in one day and are now busy looking for another house to call home. Wherever they land, the house is sure to turn into just as charming as this little yellow cottage.
Shhh! The house sold for the asking price of $168.500 which means it is worth it and the buyers did not want to lose their chance to buy it.
