Sears Catalog Home – A Charming Cottage To Love
Sears Catalog Home Is A Charming Cottage To Love
Did you know, well you probably know, but if you’re younger, you might not know it. Starting back in the early 1900s folks used to be able to shop for their house in a catalog called the Sears Catalog Home or Sears Kit Homes. After you picked out your model, the entire house was shipped to your lot in pieces and you could build it yourself or hire someone to build your home. Kind of like the recent past prefab houses of today.
Back in 1909 through 1929, a Sears Catalog Home ranged from $680 at the lowest to $4,400 at the highest price.
I wish I could go back in time and order a Sears Catalog Home at that price. I’d leave it in a will to a relative to be given to me when I was born. Check out my back to the future house idea in Ranch Style House Time Traveler.
This charming Sears Catalog Home is the “Honor Built Modern Home No. 13302, The Ridgeland Model.” Someone looked in a Sears Catalog and picked her out. It is from 1938 and she looks good today. Hey, if you bought her back in the 1900s you’d be thrilled to know that today this charming little cottage has an asking price of $325,000.
I like the left-sided catslide roof line

Just inside the red front door is a cute entrance nook and nice living room with a cozy fireplace and warm wood floors.
KITCHEN
She is all updated with dramatic black cabinets and stainless steel appliances in the kitchen. Black cabinets are becoming more popular and I just read black appliances are trending this year.
DINING ROOM
Sweet little dining room because I love corner built-in cabinets.
Smart seating or extra shelving built over the radiator heaters.
BASEMENT
How easy would it be to paint your basement this nice dark gray that makes the washer and dryer pop, plus I love the built in cabinets and even a sink.

BEDROOMS AND BATHROOM
The wood floors are beautiful.
The bathroom mirrors are like pieces of art. I’d love little mirrors like these.
Three bedrooms and two baths. I think the office above is the third bedroom.
SUNROOM
To top it off this cozy sunroom in the back.
This charming Sears Catalog Home is in Barrington, Illinois a very expense northern suburb of Chicago. It is nice to see a little cottage there that undoubtedly represents the roots of the suburb.
Next time you see a house like this, take a look at it. Maybe it’s a Sears Catalog Home.
