House Hunting in the Suburbs: Two Houses Pick Just One!
~House Hunting in the Suburbs~
Do you want House #1 or House #2?
Let’s go virtual house hunting in the suburbs. We are looking for a house in Glen Ellyn, a beautiful upscale suburb of Chicago. Pretend you’re approved for $500,000.
You’re a family of four and ideally you want:
- A charming older home with character such as built-ins and nooks.
- Large front porch
- Wood floors
- A fireplace
- Three bedrooms
- At least two bathrooms
- Two car garage
- A home close to the high school for your two teens and close to town.
Out of all the houses you’ve been trekking through, you finally narrowed it down to two homes. They are both close to the high school and town. Both homes have charm appeal inside and out.
It’s time to decide which one to buy.
What’s making you nervous is that both homes just came on the market. You want to make up your mind fast before someone else makes a bid and steals your hearts desire.
We’re taking one last walk-through before we pick our house.
Ready to go house hunting?
House Hunting in the Suburbs House #1 and House #2.
House Hunting for CHARMING OLDER HOME:
House Hunting in the Suburbs #1 is a gingerbread turquoise darling!
Total rooms, 8. Three bedrooms, two full baths, 1,876 square feet and sits on less than .25 acres. Built in 1906 it is a designated landmark home. The details are:ย “A built-in china cabinet, period light fixtures, stained glass windows and detailed woodwork.”
There is no fireplace, but it has a large front porch and two car garage.
Hmm, it would be “all that” to own a house that is a designated landmark. You’re new in town and la de da, kinda nice to think of living in a famous home.
House Hunting for LARGE PORCH:
You’ve always dreamed aboutย living in a house with a big front porch and gingerbread scrollwork. This one is tugging at your heart.
House Hunting for WOOD FLOORS:
The chandelier and window above the front doorย has you wanting this house as soon as you enter. Plus the beautiful stairs.
It has gleaming wood floors
A separate dining room with a built-in china cabinet.
There is a warm country kitchenย with count them, two large windows. It’s not as updated a kitchen as you had in mind. The hanging ceiling light is in the perfect spot to add an island and 4 chairs!
The floors upstairs are gorgeous and newly finished. Some of the bedroom paint colors are not your choice, but that’s easy to change. An office would be so nice, but you need the space as a bedroom.
Two full bathrooms including one with a claw foot tub!
House Hunting for TWO CAR GARAGE:
A back porch,ย two car garage, fenced yard and stone pathways.
House #1 is $499,000 with Gagliardo Realty
House Hunting for CHARMING OLDER HOME:
House Hunting in the Suburbs #2 is a 1928 storybook Tudor home on a large lot with mature trees. No big porch, but who cares! The fairy tale arched front door and surrounding bricks are a charming home dream.
Total rooms, 6 so less space at 1,488 square feet. A partially fenced yard. Three bedrooms. Only one full bath and a half bath.
House Hunting for TWO CAR GARAGE:
Details include a “grand living room with fireplace.” Like house #1, it has a separate dining room and eat-in kitchen. “Nooks and built-ins abound” The two car garage is newer.
Has its own storybook forest and
fairy tale arched front door inside and out. Beautiful wood floors.
House Hunting for WOOD FLOORS
A much brighter home with white wood trim on the windows.
Eat-in kitchen is more updated than house #!. The refrigerator has matching wood cabinet doors. Three windows with two above the sink. House #2 doesn’t look like it has room to add an island.
House Hunting for FIREPLACE:
Open floor plan with dining room and the fireplace you want.
Room for a piano and large sofa in the grand living room.
Mudroom scores a bonus point for house #2.
The bedrooms seem smaller, but are painted soft neutral colors. The window size and placement make each bedroom unique.
This storybook house neighborhood with mature tree lots is absolutely fantastic!
House #2 is $500,000 with Keller Williams
I like House #1 for the porch and gingerbread, plus it has more room. House #2 has a marvelous wooded lot, a fireplace and huge curb appeal.
So tell me, after all this house hunting, do you want house #1 or #2?
