Come See the Legendary Bob Hope Modern Home
Bob Hope Modern Home
Today we are looking at the legendary Bob Hope modern home in Palm Springs, California. It is pretty famous for it’s architectural wonders. I read that many a dignitary has visited the home. If memory by osmosis serves me right, this Bob Hope modern home was host to many important Hollywood stars and events.
Designed by modern architect, John Lautner, who according to wikipedia, after a fire destroyed the uncompleted original home, did not like Dolores and Bob Hope’s new design ideas and was not as involved in its rebuilding.
Whoosh! It’s a modern wonder home for sure that at first glance looks like a big city tourist building. But no, it was designed to fit in with the landscape of the desert to resemble the shape of a volcano – zillow blog reports. The over-sized roof has a gigantic circle light shaft to see that is amazing and we could think of as the opening to a volcano.
Plus it does blend with the hills and is….
tucked nicely into the grounds by this view. Does it resemble a mushroom from this angle?
Ground control to Major Tom… Is this earth?
Reminds me of a wide brim hat to protect from the sun.
I think this Bob Hope modern home is a wonder of the world. Are you as amazed as I am at the ratio difference of the circle window in proportion to say, for example, the fireplace? Eye-blinking realization.
A world full of guests will be happy to await your arrival while gazing at the sky.
There are not a lot of inside photos. I liked this view.
The house was listed for 50 million and is now half price at 25 million. Indeed, the listing details say the house is considered to be “one of the most iconic pieces of architecture in the world.”

Why thank you Dana and looking forward to more fun in 2015 with you.
I grew up loving Bob Hope, especially his specials. Shows my age. I really love the interior shot as it is so large which was a big thing for homes during that time period. You always locate the most unique and awesome homes, Sue!!
Happy 2015, sweet girl.
A friend who lives in the area said there are other homes in the area that look like this too, but you hit it on the nose that it is like a piece of art.
I gotta say that one thought kept coming to mind as I was reading and looking at the photos….”OH,MY”! It does kinda look like a mushroom. Not a very comfy looking house, more like a piece of art.
Crazy me was also trying to think what to turn it into, as in not live in it. It can be anything.
Thank you Doreen and I know you and your husband will have a wonderful trip and enjoy yourselves.
Sue, I love the light coming through the circle window. This is am amazing house for sure. If I had 25 mil I would buy it up and turn it into a condo or a hotel. Have a wonderful holiday….. Candy
This is the kind of house I’d be curious to see inside of, and it’s pretty interesting to look at, but I wouldn’t want to live there necessarily. Now for $25 mil, I don’t think I’ll have to worry about that possibility ;).
It is so enlightening to learn that a lot of other homes in the area are designed similar to the Bob Hope house Carol and just looked at Toluca Lake where I see a nice cottage-like house. P.S. Did you see previous post where you were included?
The architecture of many Palm Springs homes is very much like Bob Hope’s house – considered really modern for its time. We used to go to Palm Springs a lot when I was a kid and I remember thinking that the homes looked like space ships or like the house of future at Disneyland.
My college roommate lived next door to Bob Hope in Toluca Lake and although I never saw that house, I know that the homes in Toluca Lake are much more traditional.
Now I am off to check out some of the other celebrity home.
The views at night must be amazing for sure. Wonder if there is a telescope to gaze out the circle window? Wishing you a nice weekend.
Hi and I’m happy you liked seeing Bob Hope’s home that to me is a surprise design. Have a nice weekend.
This is a beautiful home for sure. I love the views they get to look at from their windows. This is definitely unique.
wow that’s some piece of architecture that’s for sure! I can’t believe the price cut! I think I’ll go run and bid on it – YEAH RIGHT! lol It’s a beauty for sure Sue thanks for sharing!
